Tariq Ali in The Guardian

A few weeks ago in an interview on Kim Hill's Saturday morning programme Tariq Ali made the claim that the Jews are the cause of all the problems in the Middle East.

It used to be that if someone made such an allegation then it would be pretty safe to assume they were from the extreme Right of the political spectrum. But not anymore. Tariq Ali is a Leftie. Of the all the mystifying reversals that have occurred between the Left and the Right the adoption by the Left of anti-Semitism is one of the most bizarre.

It is a pity that Kim Hill did not query just how the Jews can be held responsible for the tyranny of Saddam Hussein, the plight of the Kurds, the oppressive regimes in Iran, Syria and Saudi Arabia etc etc etc. But we all have our off days and I'm sure if Ali had come from the Right she would have displayed a little bit more skepticism.

For those who missed that interview you can get a taste of Tariq Ali in this exchange between him and Mike O'Brien, a British Labour MP, in The Guardian.
