My XX partner has finally allowed me brief custody of Adam's Curse. Sykes certainly presents a compelling case for the not quite immanent demise of the Y chromosome. But as No Right Turn points out it is hard to get worked up about something that is still along way off.

What could be interesting is our response. One possibility is for females to use only egg cells, stripping one of its mitochondrial DNA to act as a pseudo sperm. This would provide every advantage of sexual reproduction with no need for Y chromosomes or their carriers.

Another would be by abandoning ship and attaching the maleness determining part of the Y chromosome onto another one.

The technology to do this is not far away. And as agent Cooper says "tomorrow comes early".
