The cost of intervention

With the current push for intervention in Sudan it is worth considering this article by Ken Roth of HRW:

War in Iraq: Not a Humanitarian Intervention.

Any military action, even when it is not initiated by Bush and Blair, has risks. 7,000 civilians lost their lives in just one incident during the UN intervention in Bosnia - about the same number that have been killed in Iraq.

I never really got the impression that many who opposed intervention in Iraq gave much thought to the costs of actions they would feel to be justified.
