Scoop's very weird associates

Both Crooked Timbers and Harry's Place are asking questions about one of Scoop's many sources of weirdness - Sanders Research Associates.

This has been sparked by a recent Guardian op-ed by John Laughland, a member of this organisation -

The mask of altruism disguising a colonial war.

Laughland maintains that talk of intervention in Sudan is just colonialism. The comments section of the Crooked Timbers post sheds light on this rather strange outfit. Turns out they are right wing cranks. But what they say sounds just like Left wing cranks and their material is being used on the Chomskiist Zmag site.

Which is presumably why Scoop publishes this sort of material without an ounce of skepticism.

The Sharon to Peres: "We Control America" hoax referred to at Harry's Place is not unsurprisingly linked to by Sydney Morning Herald's resident crank Margo Kingston in order to defend against the allegation that her statement "...fundamentalist Zionist lobby controls politics and the media in the US and Australia" is anti-Semitic.

I suppose we should thank Scoop for showing us that the extreme Left and extreme Right are the same, accept that one gets the impression that Scoop actually sees the world in the same way as these nuts.
