The Oz election

There is an interesting take on the Howard victory in The Australian -

Media intelligence fails even elementary analysis

A significant trend around the Western world is the increasing difficulty of defeating sitting members of parliament, whatever party they represent.
The other critical conclusion to come out of this election is that it was a total vindication of John Howard over Iraq. This is very painful for the commentariat – perhaps the Government should set up special psychiatric triage clinics for commentators unable to cope with their grief over the electorate's decision on Iraq.
The last point is a complicated one but I suspect that the anti-war message of some on the Left was never the vote winner they imagine it to be.
